10 BDSM Pervertables Under $10

Did you overspend on kinky stuff this Valentine’s Day or after seeing 50 Shades of Grey? Not to worry, I have a retail therapy solution to fill out the gaps in your toy chest for minimal cash.

BDSM is great fun, of course, but as far as hobbies go it can be a pretty expensive one (even more so if you’re interested in leather, latex, or bondage furniture.) But what about for kinksters like me who are operating on a shoestring student budget? Here are my top ten pervertables you can find for under $10 that you’ll be able to find close to home (no shipping costs required!)

Rubber bands

The humble rubber band has a distinctive sting that can make even experienced pain sluts whimper. Rubber bands come in fun colors, which is always nice, and lots of different thicknesses that give different sensations from biting sting to firm thud. Of course, they break sometimes during play, but that’s why they come in packs of so many, like $3 for a 1/4lb bag from Staples.

Wooden hairbrush

Need a paddle but don’t want something conspicuously “fetish”-y? A wooden hair brush might be just the thing you need (especially if you like your scenes a bit more “domestic” than “dungeon”.) Choose a wooden brush over a plastic one to ensure it will give a more satisfying thud and opt for one with a flat back for best results. This lovely one is $10 from Sally Beauty Supply.

Wooden Dowel

The distinctive, harsh sting of a cane is an extremely sought-after sensation by masochists and a perfect punishment for subs. A dowel is the main ingredient of a cane, just wrap a bit of leather around the end for a more comfortable handle and on you go! The key is to look for a dowel that is thin and flexible enough to bend slightly when you apply pressure for both ends, something swishy should do nicely. At Home Depot a half inch dowel that is 48 inches long will cost you just $2.

Wooden clothespins

Wooden clothespins can be used to pinch the skin and create delicious stings that intensify when they’re removed, combining relief with exquisite agony. Used on the nipples, on the labia and the clitoris, on the penis and testicles, or in a zipper up the thighs or torso, the possibilities are almost endless. Best of all, they’re dirt cheap. For example, a package of 25 Mini Clothespins from Joann Fabric and Craft Store is under $3 and come in lots of lovely colors, or you can find a more traditional size and coloring at Walmart at $2 for 100.

Carabiners

If you’re interested in bondage, carabiners can be extremely useful. Use them to connect two wrist cuffs together, or to connect rope without making an extra tie in rope bondage, they’re quite handy things to have on hand. Note: do not use carabiners for suspension unless they are weighted for the purpose (check the rock climbing section of your local sports retailer for weighted carabiners and ask for help if you’re not sure, better safe than sorry!) For a pack of two simple carabiners from Target you’ll pay under $3, not bad for such a versatile little toy.

Tracing Wheel

Recently I wrote about one of my favorite pieces of BDSM kit: the Wartenberg pinwheel. A little spinny wheel with sharp points to drag across the skin, causing plenty of stinging sensations along the way? Count me in! Well, if you want a cheap version closer to home, tracing wheels are your friend! This one from Joanns is just $3.

Chopsticks

Chopsticks are such a simple pervertable it’s hard to imagine my kit without them. As smackers they deliver a firm sting great for targeted smacking on the genitals or nipples, but they can also be used as bondage. A pair of chopsticks broken apart but kept together by using rubber bands at the ends can make an effective clamp for nipples, or put the chopsticks on either side of a penis and tie them closed to clamp around it. Chopsticks are also extremely cheap, they either come in a package of 10 pairs for $3 at Target or for free with your Chinese take-out. Can’t go wrong!

Black Leather Belt

Not only are black leather belts stylish, as with all things black leather in my humble opinion, but they are also intimidating and sexy BDSM tools. Pulling it out of your belt loops is a good way to put your submissive on edge for a good punishment or funishment. Besides spanking, they make a good substitute for wrist restrainers and a good collar and leash (although extreme caution must be taken to avoid choking the sub, as choking with a belt can cause serious damage to the throat.) A good quality leather belt will likely cost you, but this set of two from K-Mart is just $10.

Wooden Ruler

Take a stroll through the school or office supplies selection and get yourself a nice wooden ruler. Trust me. Even if you’re not into the teacher/student roleplay that they usually accompany, they make incredible spankers and a good wooden ruler should last you a while. This simple 12 inch ruler from Staples is less than $2. You can also find metre or yard sticks which will give you options for further away spanking, if you would prefer, although they are more expensive.

Pet Tags

For pet play or another collared submissive, a custom tag can be a real treat while not being horrendously expensive. Carve with the submissive’s name, or a chosen word (“Kitten” “Bitch” “Slut” etc.) on one side and the name of the dominant, date of collaring, or slave registry number on the other. If you’re worried about privacy, no worries, many local Petsmarts have a kiosk for you to get the tag carved on your own by a machine, no prying eyes. On their website there are a lot of different options, starting from less than $5, if you need an idea for a design.

And there you have it, ten pieces of BDSM kit you can find in vanilla places for under $10. While BDSM can be an expensive hobby, it doesn’t have to be, and your creativity will certainly be rewarded.

What is your favorite pervertable item you’ve ever come across?
